“In a very real sense, the writer writes in order to teach himself, to understand himself, to satisfy himself…” – Alfred Kazin
Welcome to “Inspired by Real Life”!
My name is Maraya Lucas and I am an aspiring writer, working on my first novel. On this blog, I will try my hand at writing for your reading enjoyment (or misery, as the case may be). I am learning as I go, so I appreciate getting lots of constructive criticism – tell me what you loved and what you hated. It is this feedback that will eventually help me to hone my craft, so don’t go soft on me. Note that I moderate comments, so your comment won’t appear immediately. Along the way, I will also be sharing some thoughts on my journey to becoming a writer and great resources that I come across.
My roadmap for this journey is “Writing Fiction” by the Gotham Writers’ Workshop (see sidebar). This book is an alternative (or supplement) to their famed writing courses. I will be working my way through the book completing exercises as I go. Copywrite issues prevent me from explaining precisely what the exercises entail (although I will include page numbers as reference). Actually, I think it may be an advantage that you won’t know exactly what I’ve been asked to do for an exercise – it may make it all the more interesting to see if I accomplish my goal!
I hope that you like what you see and that you’ll subscribe to my blog’s feed! Enjoy!
